Modeling the TetraSpar Floating Offshore Wind Turbine Foundation as a Flexible Structure in OrcaFlex and OpenFAST

چکیده

Floating offshore wind turbine technology has seen an increasing and continuous development in recent years. When designing the floating platforms, both experimental numerical tools are applied, with latter often using time-domain solvers based on hydro-load estimation from a Morison approach or boundary element method. Commercial software packages such as OrcaFlex, open-source OpenFAST, used where floater is modeled rigid six degree-of-freedom body loads applied at center of gravity. However, for final structural design, it necessary to have information distribution over entire know local internal each component. This paper uses TetraSpar design case study examine new modeling approaches OrcaFlex OpenFAST that provide this information. The proves possibility applying extraction loads, while also presenting initial code-to-code verification between OpenFAST. As can be expected, comparing flexible model rigid-body how motion affected by flexibility structure. generally agree, but there some differences results due different approaches. Since no data available study, only forms baseline future studies still describes possibilities codes.

Foundation damping and the dynamics of offshore wind turbine monopiles

The contribution of foundation damping to offshore wind turbines (OWTs) is not well known, though researchers have back-calculated foundation damping from “rotor-stop” tests after estimating aerodynamic, hydrodynamic, and structural damping with numerical models. Because design guidelines do not currently recommend methods for determining foundation damping, it is typically neglected. This pape...

Effect of Platform Surge Motion on the Performance of 5MW NREL Offshore Floating Wind Turbine

In this study, an unsteady aerodynamic simulation is performed to realize the influences of platform surge motion on the aerodynamic performance of a high capacity offshore floating wind turbine. A dynamic model with pitch angle control system is utilized to propose a more realistic model of wind turbine and also achieve the rated condition of the rotor. The transient effect of platform surge m...

On the Modeling of Spar-type Floating Offshore Wind Turbines

In this paper an overview about floating offshore wind turbines (FOWT) including operating conditions, property and applicability of the barge, tension-leg, and spar floating platforms is described. The spar-floating offshore wind turbines (S-FOWT) have advantages in deepwater and their preliminary design, numerical modeling tools and integrated modeling are reviewed. Important conclusions abou...
